An adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic, this was the Cumbrian theatre’s Christmas offering in the Lake District for 2024; A yearly tradition drawing communities in from the region for a night at the theatre, the brief from Kash (Director) was joy and spectacle.

I was interested in portraying the tropical jungle setting differentl and was intrigued by how animals perceive colour; this led down a rabbit hole of technicolour splendour that provided the basis for the finishes of the design.

Spatially, I wanted to foster a sense of discovery and play for younger audiences and approached the stage as a playground for the cast of animals. The result was a varied, delightful landscape where one could climb up, fastrope down, fly in, pop out from the ground or through the trunks of a tree.
