Nick Payne’s popular multiverse two-hander blending rom-com, quantum physics, and euthanasia is widely staged across the world. Here it was programmed by the historically significant Stephen Joseph Theatre, the UK’s first purpose-built theatre in-the-round.

The first point I raised with Paul (Director) about the play was that it would do well with or without a set. The acknowledgement that this was an actors’ play was liberating in a way that it clarified the brief - respond aesthetically to the thematic arcs of the text.

I wanted to work with light and elementary forms - dots or lines - to weave the story of the multiverse. This led me to experimentations with side-glow fibre optic cable and referencing other artists who work with similar material (Chiharu Shiota, Carlo Bernadini), culminating in the installation created for the show.
